It was either The Danny Thomas Show or That Girl. Can't remember which but I know he played a policeman in the show and was very popular so got his own show "The Andy Griffith Show"

There was a spin off of the Andy Griffith Show also. I think it was called Mayberry RFD. It wasn't as good. I think Andy Griffith play a small part on The Danny Thomas show as a hick policeman and was so popular with the audience that he got his own show. At first he was going to provide the comedy but when Don Knots (Barney Fife) joined the cast Andy became the straight man for all of Barney's antics. It was a great show!

I can't remember. The Andy Griffith Show had a spinoff of its own, Gomer Pyle USMC. I didn't like it.

I am a big fan of the show and think each character was exactly the person who should have played the role. I know the very first episode had a different Floyd The Barber but only for that one show. Can you imagine The Andy Griffith Show without Floyd or Barney? It just would not have made it.
